The research network Black Diaspora and Germany (BDG) was founded by Black and white academics in 2007 in order to explore and discuss the history and present experience of the Black Diaspora in Germany from an interdisciplinary perspective. Research aims included both theoretical reflections and the presentation of concrete new case studies. The project has also emphasised the importance of collaborating with Black political and cultural activists and the Black Community in order to combine academic perspectives with wider socio-political discourses and initiatives. The network was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 2010 to 2018.
